I’d seen pictures of it before, but not until the first time I drove into Reykjavik, Iceland did I appreciate the scale to which the city’s  Hallgrimskirja Cathedral dominates the skyline.

And it’s only when I got close to it that I truly grasped the detail and astonishing design of the thing. It’s quite a sight, and one of the most beautiful churches on the planet. The statue was designed by Alexander Calder.
