I’ve always been fascinated by the paintings of Yves Tanguy, with their odd, organic constructions and surrealist plains stretching to a distant and seemingly unreachable horizon, beneath an unsettled sky. There’s a suggestion of dream, but rarely nightmare. His work has a logic and sense of completeness in its imagery that is actually comforting in its own way. Even his darker landscapes seem like places I’d like to visit.
