The Anita Cerquetti Academy and Montecosaro Municipality, in collaboration with the Gilfredo Cattolica Music Association, announces the eight edition of the International Anita Cerquetti Opera Competition.

Information About the Competition:

CLAUSE 1
The Competition is open to Italian and foreign citizens of both sexes, born after 1 January 1983 who on the date of the competition are at least 18 years old.

CLAUSE 2
Applications should be submitted no later than 26 March 2018. Applications sent by mail should in any case be received by the above date (postmark date shall be proof of dispatch). The admission application should be sent complete with the following documents:
– Application
– Photocopy of identity document or passport in the case of non-Italian contestants;
– Certificate of studies carried out with a Music Institute, Conservatory or declaration of a private teacher;
– Resume
– 2 photographs signed on the back
– A photocopy of bank transfer for 80 Euros (the original must be submitted by contestant on arrival at the theatre) as enrollment fee should be sent to the following address:

Personal details will be processed only for the aims and purposes of the competition. If the applicant does not participate in the Competition, the enrolment fee will not be refunded. Travel and accommodation expenses will not be refunded to contestants by the organisation.

CLAUSE 3
Each contestant must present four opera arias of his or her choice, one of which should be in a foreign language; for the not-Italian singers, at least one of the arias has to be in Italian language.
• In the Preliminary Round contestants will perform two arias, one of the Contestant’s choice and the other chosen by the Jury.
• In the Semi-Final Round, the contestants will perform the two arias remaining.
• In the Final Round, organised as a public concert, the Commission will decide one aria, from the four arias submitted by contestants.

CLAUSE 4
Contestants will be accompanied by the official competition pianists but may ask to be accompanied by a pianist of their choice at their expense.

CLAUSE 5
Contestants will be advised of the time of their Preliminary Round (6 April 2018) that will be held, as will the semi-finals and the finals, at the LOGGE THEATRE in Piazza Trieste, n° 11 at Montecosaro (MC). Contestants should arrive at the theatre at least 60 minutes before the time of their performance bringing an identity card to complete all the necessary formalities.

The order of the Preliminary Rounds will be decided by a pre-draw on Wednesday 6 April 2018 at Montecosaro Municipality in the presence of the Mayor; starting from the letter drawn, candidates will perform in alphabetical order. Contestants may practice in rooms next to the theatre, accompanied by one of the two official Competition pianists as from 9:00 a.m. 6 April. The Preliminary Round will start at 10:00 a.m. Friday 6 April 2018. The Semi-Finals will start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday 7 April. The Finals will start at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday 8 April 2018 and will be open to the public.

CLAUSE 6
First, second and third prizes will be awarded at the sole discretion of the Jury. The Jury will admit to the Semi-Final all those contestants who during the Preliminary Round are judged to be eligible. The same criteria will be applied to Semi-Final contestants who are admitted to the Final. For the Final the Jury will use the voting system indicated by clause 7 to award first, second and third places, irrespective of the section.

CLAUSE 7
The Jury panel will consist of international music operators and artists, and its decision at the end of each performance will be binding. All performances before the Final will be judged merely for eligibility to participate in the next round. The Final vote will be expressed in points taking into account the average votes of the individual Jury members, excluding the highest and lowest votes. Decisions will be published in a register at the end of each performance.

CLAUSE 8
Prizes:
The 1st place winner will receive a study grant of 1000 Euros, offered by the Civitanova Marche Rotary Club + a concert during the season of the Opera Season Civitanova all’Opera with the Orchestra Sinfonica Puccini and a concert in Sanremo, Italy, the 23rd of August 2018 with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo.

The 2nd place winner will receive a study grant of 600 Euros, offered by the Civitanova Marche Lions Club Host + a concert in Grosseto, Italy, with the Orchestra Città di Grosseto in January 2019.

The 3rd place winner will receive a study grant of 400 Euros, offered by the Civitanova Marche Lions Club Cluana + a concert in the season of the Orchestra Sinfonica Puccini.

Some of the finalists will be chosen for taking part in the operas of the Civitanova all’Opera Season in 2019.
