Christmas 2013 – A Christmas Memory

One of the things I like to do each Christmas season is revisit some of the stories and music that have meant something to me over the years.
Among my favorites is Truman Capote’s beautiful and deeply moving A Christmas Memory. This is a sad and increasingly (as the years go by) poignant tale, especially given the continued losses we suffer of those we love.
The story was turned into a gem of a short film in 1967, and featured lovely music by my friend and client Meyer Kupferman, who has been gone for a few years now, and performances by the wonderful Geraldine Page as Aunt Sook and Donnie Melvin as Buddy (Capote as a child).
The writing is exquisite, as is the author’s narration. If the last few minutes of the film don’t get to you and leave you longing for those you miss, then you weren’t paying attention.
A Christmas Memory is in 6 parts online, but I’ll only post part 1 here. The rest of the links are on the page.
Please watch this film and think about those you love, as they are the only things that ultimately matter.
This one’s for my Mother….
